Your English-speaking driver will come to collect you in the morning at your hotel in the center of Rome to get an early start on your tour to experience the highlights of the Amalfi Coast. You will arrive before the heat of the day to Pompeii, the archeological park and UNESCO World Heritage Site located at the foot of the still active Vesuvius volcano.
The town was covered in ash and stones in 79AD, burying the whole town and leaving it virtually intact. You will meet your local English-speaking guide at the entrance for a private two hour walking tour, providing an incredible glimpse into Roman living nearly 2000 years ago.
Explore the wide streets and frescoed buildings as your guide brings Pompeii to life with stories and history. We suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes to navigate the uneven ancient streets.
You will meet back up with your driver and he will take you out along the coastal road until you reach the Sorrento Peninsula. Sorrento’s seaside cliffs and luxury hotels have attracted the rich and famous for centuries.
It was once the preferred destination for British nobility escaping the dreary weather up north in this sunny, seaside paradise filled with lemon trees and the sparkling sea stretching out to Capri and the Bay of Naples. In Sorrento you can shop, stroll, and have lunch at a great local restaurant of seafood, fish, pasta or pizza.
After lunch you will make your way from Sorrento to Positano along one of the most beautiful and dramatic drives in Italy. Your driver can stop frequently for photo opportunities as you drive through Positano, Praiano and on to Amalfi, the largest of the Amalfi Coast towns that is full of history, art and vibrant color.
Here you can visit the cathedral dedicated to St. Andrew and enjoy the shops selling local products like the bright yellow limoncello, a locally made lemon liqueur or extra virgin olive oil. Your driver will return you safely to Rome at the end of your day as you relax in the comfort of your private air-conditioned vehicle.
