Description
Your private English-speaking driver will arrive to your hotel in the morning for pick up with a comfortable, luxury vehicle. You will head to the south, arriving mid-morning at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Pompeii, located below the towering Mt. Vesuvius.
Still active today, Vesuvius has erupted many times over the centuries, with the most important eruption occurring in 79AD, burying the entire town of Pompeii under stones and ash and preserving it intact so that today it is an open-air museum showing what life was like in Roman times.
Upon arrival to the entrance you will be met by your local guide who will take you to the most important spots within the very large archeological park, both inside and outside. Your private walking tour of Pompeii lasts for two hours, and then your guide will take you back to meet up with your driver.
We recommend comfortable walking shoes as the site has uneven, ancient roads, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Your driver will then take you to a local typical restaurant where you can enjoy some of the local specialties, including mozzarella di bufala and delicious red sauce made from the local tomatoes.
After lunch, your driver will take you to the bustling and rapidly changing city of Naples. Here you will see the beautiful Castel dell’Ovo which dominates the Bay of Naples, the largest square in Naples called Piazza del Plebiscito, the church of San Francesco di Paola and the Palazzo Reale. It is also possible to visit the National Archeological Museum, the most important museum of its kind in Italy.
Driving around the square Piazza Trieste e Trento you will see the Teatro San Carlo, the oldest European Lyric theatre and Galleria Umberto. As you leave your driver will take you up the Posillipo hill for some of the most stunning views across the sparkling Bay of Naples before driving you back to your hotel in Rome.
