Description
Your adventure begins with a pick up at your centrally located hotel in Rome with private chauffeur and luxury vehicle. Your destination for the day is the beautiful villas and countryside residences of the Roman VIP, located just 20 km outside of the city. Your first stop is the splendid complex of Hadrian’s Villa located along the Tiburtina Road below the town of Tivoli.
It was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as his retreat from everyday life in Rome. However, many think he actually governed eternal city from here in later times and housed members of his court as well as visitors.
This splendid property features over 30 buildings as well as pools, fountains, statues and mixed landscape of gardens and wilderness.
Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage site that is still being excavated and restored but faces some major challenges from decay from aging and erosion from being exposed to the elements.
After visiting Hadrian’s villa, your driver will take you to the town of Tivoli where you can have a nice lunch in one of the local restaurants that your driver will suggest. Be sure to try the refreshing local Frascati white wine during your meal.
After lunch your driver will take you to another famous site, the superb Villa D’Este built in the middle of the 1500’s by the powerful d’Este family. It is famous all over the world for its beautiful fountains and required a nearby river to be diverted and extensive canals to be built to fill the endless fountains, waterfalls, basins, and other water features.
The villa is now a museum and the Italian Renaissance garden is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. After your visit to Villa D’Este your driver will return you to your hotel in Rome along a panoramic route.
